WDIY Panel Presentation
On March 9th, during “Pints & Policy Night” at the Bethlehem Brew Works, presented by WDIY 88.1 FM and the Bethlehem restaurant, I’ll be serving as moderator and panelist for, “Social Media Strategy Considerations for Non-Profits” in a free public forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Steelgaarden Lounge.
Joining me will be Jeff Pooley, assistant professor of Media & Communication, Muhlenberg College, and Bill Schankel, Director, Member Marketing, Planning and Publications at Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers.
Following a brief overview of the topic – pointing out how new this area is, how frequently it changes, and how important it is to have a well thought out plan for your organization, Jeff will speak to how social media has impacted the way we communicate, its impact on news organizations, and what this means to non-profits.
I will talk about my prior organization’s frenzied entrance with a lack of strategy and failure to first assess probable adoption, compared to my new organization’s need to use social networking because of limited funds coupled with the fact that the target audience is already there. And Bill will talk about his organization’s decision to reassess their online strategy, why they did it and what the outcome was.
These will be brief five minute presentations, and then we’ll roll into Q & A, making the program as interactive as possible, we’ll be accepting questions from the audience in person and via Twitter for those using the #wdiy hashtag.
